Squirrel!

Happy Sunday!!! Love today because its a Momma and me day. I am glad Momma is home on this day because there is nothing to chase. No trucks, no golf carts, very few dogs .... SQUIRREL!

Oh yeah, love to chase the squirrels. Early in the morning before every other dog is up and coming to the dog park, I get to play with the squirrels. Now some people may say I stalk them, others may say I chase them, but I play with them and they play with me. Squirrels love to run and chase each other as much as I like to chase and play with them. They are not afraid of me because I have to stay behind the fence.

There are usually four or five squirrels that hang around the park but only two really enjoy playing with me. They sit at the bottom of a tree as I sneak up on them. Slowly, I put one paw down and pick up the other. Creeping forward by centimeters. When I am just about to pounce, they run up the tree. I know they are playing with me because they don't chatter or are angry like some other squirrels. These friendly ones will come back down to play again. Sometimes they run along the top of the chain link fence for me to run with them. They aren't as fast as bunnies but will stay around a lot longer. My friend Kula likes to chase squirrels, too. According to her Mom, one day a squirrel ran right at her as she was running at it. Next thing you know, the squirrel hopped on her back and kept going! I didn't see it,but it sure sounds funny!!

Have a happy day. I am going to take a nap now. Just came back from the dog park and playing with my friend Millie. She is only 1-1/2 years old and full of energy. I don't keep up as well as I used to since I am almost nine but I give her a run for her money.

Helping Momma

Sorry I haven't written lately, but Momma was sick and I was taking care of her. I do a really good job of taking care of Momma. When she is resting or napping, I make sure to bark out all that is happening around us to keep her informed. I also bark and chase away all the people, golf carts and trucks that come by. I am sure she appreciates my barking. I also make sure she gets out for fresh air and exercise. During our walks, when she is not feeling well, I make sure to walk longer distances and take longer to do my business so that she is outside longer than normal. I can't cook for Momma but I make sure I let her know when it is time to eat breakfast, lunch, snacks and supper. I am always ready to remind her. Momma watches television or plays on her computer but I don't think that is healthy. I make sure to keep her entertained by bringing toys to play with. Oh Happy Day!

A day with Momma home is always fun but today was extra special. We went to our usual park and there were lots of people for me to say hi and kiss. These people actually came to me and didn't just keep running or walking like they usually did. I got lots of love from strangers today.Snoopy dance has nothing on me  I rolled in the grass so many times and was so happy! People stopped to watch me and laughed. I love to make Momma an others laugh as much as I like barking at other dogs but I didn't back at any of them at the park. They barked at me but I ignored them. I played with a couple of smaller dogs but most were too busy checking things out like I was. Momma also bought a peanut butter shake. I really wanted some so was on my best behavior. I usually have to wait until the end to lick out the cup, bowl or lick the straw but today she did something different. She held out the straw and the ice cream fell into my mouth. NOISE

Next to smells, noises can be the best thing. I have exceptional hearing and know when a truck or golf cart is coming and I am ready to have fun barking and chasing it. But some noises are bad. Like those from a thunderstorm or fireworks. Those scare me. Last night I went out with my Mom to take out the trash and the booms started early - 6:30!! I pulled Mom all the way back home because I was so scared. She kept telling me that it was just noise but I didn't like it one bit. She sat on the floor with me for an hour, cuddling and petting me. I may have played it up a bit to get the lovings for that long, but hey, I deserved it after that scare. Then they did it again this morning at 6:30. We were taking our usual morning walk and someone kept making those loud booms. I barely went to the bathroom and pulled Momma all the way back home from the front of the complex.
